Never been a big Cam Newton fan. I’ve said that a few times. He wasn’t always the best leader in Carolina and he’s injury prone.
But the New England Patriots are his team now.
And that was evident during the New England Patriots loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on the impromptu Monday Night match up 26-10.
Veteran back up Brian Hoyer did his best but couldn’t get the offense going. Groomed play caller Jarret Stidham started fast but threw two interceptions. Back to the lab with him, but there is potential there.
Right now it’s about Cam.
He did test positive for COVID which led to this rescheduling but I argue the Pats would have taken this Chiefs team to the limit if he were playing. Especially this week when they got off to a slow start.
Don’t forget. These are the Super Bowl Champions we’re talking about. These Patriots can run with anybody, even with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay.
But they need Cam.
New England is 2-2. Their next four games. Broncos, Niners, Bills, and Jets. That sounds like at least 3-1 to me if everyone stays healthy.
They’ll likely be in the playoffs barring a collapse.
How far they go depends on who is under center for Bill Belichick and company.
And they need to hope it’s the former MVP.
