“Yawn”, most Orlando area general elections will be pretty boring this year

We’re officially in the general elections stretch for mid terms, here in the Orlando area.

And where is the excitement? It’s not very easy to find.

All three congressional races are essentially decided.

Most county commission races are easy to pick, except Orange County Commission District 6, that one is a puzzler.

And most of the state senate and state house races are projecting their results. We’ve got that state senate race in Seminole, but I think Jason Brodeur is still a favorite there over Joy Goff-Marcil.

So, we head to the top of the ballot. Where Charlie Crist will try to stop Ron DeSantis, and keep his “Freedom train” from ever making it to 2024. We might get some visits from Joe Biden in Orlando. That could be exciting.

But we can’t remember how the energy seemed to disappear from his 2014 effort against Rick Scott in the final weeks. That was bizarre.

Then there is the “Daughter of Duval” here in Orlando. Former police chief and congresswoman, Val Demings. But the story isn’t whether Val can do well in Central Florida, so much that she doesn’t allow Marco Rubio to swoop into Seminole and Osceola County and push her there. Which he’s done before, when she campaigned side by side with Patrick Murphy in 2016 and he got his tail kicked.

In fact, the most interesting campaign may be that of her husband, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, who is trying to pass a tax hike for transportation in the middle of a housing crisis.

So yeah, not too much excitement.

It’s early though. We could get some edgy ads. We’ve still got debates. And then the real world continues to happen all around us.

It’s boring now, but life happens quickly in Orlando. Let’s see where it goes.
