The Tampa Bay Buccaneers let a win slip away on Sunday evening, allowing the New York Giants led by a phenomenal performance by rookie quarterback Daniel Jones and a poor special teams performance on their part decide the outcome of their 32-31 loss.
We’ll all be talking about Daniel Jones tomorrow and deservedly so, he’ll be the toast of the Big Apple for the next week despite being booed at the draft and being the man who has to replace Eli Manning.
But here in Florida, let’s not allow Jameis Winston’s performance to go unnoticed.
The embattled quarterback went 23/37 throwing almost 400 yards along with 3 touchdowns and one interception.
We have to note this because let’s be realistic, Winston doesn’t have much time left to prove himself in Tampa Bay. We note his setbacks, let’s not forget to recognize his improvements.
Defense and special teams let him down here. The score was 28-10 at halftime, they should have won this game.
The Bucs needed this game. Things don’t get easier from here. Next they get the Rams, followed by the Saints and the improving Panthers. The NFC South is still weak, but they can’t allow these projected “Ws” to pass them by.
Let’s hope that Winston can continue to improve under this Bruce Arians system and let’s not forget what an awesome day Mike Evans had. Goodness.
Today was a tough loss for Bucs fans, but let’s not drown in the negative without recognizing that there is some progress being made.
