The Magic are back in the playoffs and it’s a great thing for Orlando

In case you haven’t heard, your Orlando Magic are back in the NBA playoffs, their first trip since 2012. In a city that regularly hosts the best athletes in the world at the Pro Bowl, NBA All Star game, college football bowl games, there is something special when Orlando’s own team makes it into the postseason.

Especially with this Orlando team. This isn’t a superstar, headline grabbing, television drama squad like our friends up north, or out west. This is a blue collar, no nonsense team, that has crawled their way back to the playoffs, after a few failed experiments with players and management.

Steve Clifford is getting NBA Coach of the Year consideration, despite not being a huge name in the coaching world. Nikola Vucecic, is deserving an NBA All Star who plays a tough game that has him putting up a double-double almost every night. Aaron Gordon is continuing to be a superstar in the making, and role players coming off of the bench are also impressive and delivering when needed.

Many of us remember the 95′ Orlando Magic team with Shaq and Penny. That was a magical time for the city. Prime time exposure to the rest of the world for athletic excellence. We can also think back to the 09’team that went toe to toe with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Things didn’t go Orlando’s way that year, but it’s better to be a Magic fan than a Lakers fan right now, you can believe that.

So, once again the Amway Center will ignite in blue and white and there is no telling how far the team can go. They’ll almost certainly be underdogs, but they weren’t even suppose to be in the playoffs to begin with. They’ll embrace that underdog role.

Orlando is back in the playoff and the city is once again humming. Coupled with the success of UCF football and basketball (which took Duke to the limit), the Magic gives Central Florida another reason to be proud.

Let’s fill that arena, go to a few viewing parties, and watch from home. It’s should be a fun ride and another chance to support Orlando.
