On Sunday night, Disney Plus released the first trailer for their “Wandavision” program that will feature Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany.
The show is signature top shelf Disney production and looks wonderful. You can’t question the acting abilities of either of it’s two stars and there is a lot of story to tell with these characters after the way their relationship ended (or was put on hold) in the movies.
But the truth is that Wandavision is going to be very unique. This is not Vision and Scarlett Witch the way newer fans know them. There were no real apparent comic book scenes or epic battles in the trailer which appears to be set in 1950s sitcom land.
It might leave behind some fans that are use to seeing these two characters kick supervillain tail like they have in the past.
This show looks a little deeper. More thought provoking than other stuff we’ve seen from the Marvel catalog.
And it might not be for everyone.
Or it could be delivered in a way that keeps everyone on board. We can’t be sure.
But it’s safe to say that Wandavision is unlike anything Disney has done with Marvel before.
They are hedging their bets here though. They’ve got “Black Widow” on the shelf and for Disney Plus they’ve got the “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” series which looks to be about as traditional as Marvel can get.
But let’s see what happens with Wandavision. I know that I’ll still be there streaming like a mad man when it is available.
