Florida lawmakers must unanimously pass bill urging Congress to recognize veterans suicide problem

Sadly, Florida has been leading the way in veterans suicide. While there is so much going on in the world at the moment, state lawmakers can send a quick message to Washington urging immediate action.

‘Urges Congress to recognize veteran suicide & fully fund suicide prevention efforts by United States Department of Veterans Affairs.“

This legislation should pass unanimously. There is no reason why any lawmaker should oppose it.

While House memorials are also mostly symbolic, a unanimous vote would at least send a message to a congress that seems more divided than ever.

Here is one problem we can agree on. Let’s fix it.

And there is so much going on in Tallahassee, anytime the light shines on veterans affairs, we have to run for it and try to get something done because we don’t know when we’ll get another chance.

Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be making noise about this bill as we move towards session and of course anyone from out side of Florida should try and get their local leaders to acknowledge this problem.

And then there are the everyday battles we have to fight for ourselves. To take care of each other and attack the problems have caused us to get here. Poor transition from military to civilian life. A lack of affordable housing. Low wages. All of the pitfalls that await our brothers and sisters that served us so well when they take off the uniform.

Let’s pass this bill unanimously and send a message that we’re ready to fight this problem together.
