Florida is right to require proof of state residency for COVID 19 Vaccine

Right now, there are millions of Floridians waiting for the COVID 19 vaccine, including many of our family members.

And also right now, there are out of state visitors coming to Florida and getting the COVID 19 vaccine first.

While I appreciate that our home is one of the most visited places in the world, I would also appreciate it if people stayed home and got the vaccine there.

Lucky for us, the state is putting into play new rules to stop “Vaccine Tourism” in it’s tracks (story HERE).

That’s right. You’ll need a driver’s license, power bill, or something to let us know that you actually live here.

What’s especially aggravating is that in addition to our regular residents who aren’t getting the vaccine, we’ve got veterans who are stuck waiting for the vaccine from a slow VA rollout, which already ran out of doses (post HERE).

And it’s junk that some locations are grandfathering those who already had their first dose. These visitors should have to go home for that second shot. But hey, at least we’re getting some action.

There may be some that may believe us to be cruel to turn away those who don’t live here. And they’re just wrong. When you choose to live somewhere, you’re making an investment into your community, and when the time comes, that community needs to be able to take care of you as well.

We’ve still got a long way to go. Goodness, we’re still 65+ and there is no indication on when that age threshold will drop. We’ve got to eliminate the belief that this is a going to be a quick process.

And that means taking care of our neighbors first.
