Trending: Scrappy “Abbott Elementary” keeps social media buzzing for ABC

One of the best new shows on television continues to be Abbott Elementary, but just as important in the eyes of it’s network and advertisers is that social media loves it as well.

The workplace comedy in the style of “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation” was at the top of the trends tonight, even besting the final run of NBC powerhouse “This is Us” during the first half of the 9PM hour EST.

If you haven’t watched it yet, the program focuses on dedicated teachers trying to deliver an education to kids in Philadelphia while dealing with a shortage of staffing and funding. Obviously a real issue occurring in all over the United States today.

It’s funny and heartfelt.

And it’s also the second night in a row that ABC has ruled the trends after the Bachelor juggernaut had social media buzzing on Monday as usual. This along with the College Football National Championship on ESPN was collectively good news for Disney this week.

Some good news for the CW too as “Naomi”, it’s new program from Ava DuVernay was also in the top ten tonight on Twitter. CW viewers are normally pretty strong on social media but this is some positive buzz on the heels of the news that the network hasn’t been profitable since 2006 and could be sold.
