American Song Contest: Some viewers think show isn’t rewarding diversity

American Song Contest has been a neat endeavor for NBC. The musical competition show hosted by Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg features musical talents from all of the United States and it’s territories, and has acts spanning almost every genre you can think of (including whatever ‘New Boot Goofin’ was).

One would think a controversial point of the show would be artists like Michael Bolton, Macy Gray, and Jewel, competing in the general field. But that hasn’t been it.

Instead viewers are frustrated with the lack of diversity that is making it into the later rounds of the show..

As for American Song Contest in it’s primary mission of throwing a speed bump in front of American Idol (where Kelly Clarkson was it’s first winner) it’s at least sparking conversation that could lead to a spike of interest in challenging the long-running TV juggernaut.

What do you think? Should American Song Contest change the way it’s voting works?
