USFL: Birmingham Stallions defeat New Jersey Generals 28-24 in inaugural contest

The United States Football league kicked off their inaugural season last night, with the Birmingham Stallions defeating the New Jersey Generals 28-24, in a down to the wire contest broadcasted on multiple networks and kicking off a weekend slate of games.

Generals quarterback, Luis Perez, kicked off the first drive of the evening with a deep pass to Randy Satterfield which resulted in a 49 yard gain. The duo would connect again for a touchdown on that opening drive putting the Generals up 7-0, before the Stallions would answer with a touchdown drive of their own with quarterback Alex McGough connecting with O’Sirus Mitchell to tie the game.

Perez would connect with Braedon Bowman to put the Generals up 14-7, and would take a lead into the half before the Stallions would answer with a CJ Marable rushing touchdown late in the third quarter, knotting up the score heading into the fourth quarter, when the Generals and Stallions would trade scores once more, evening the contest at 21-21, before a Generals field goal giving them a three point edge with about 4 minutes remaining.

But the hometown Stallions would answer with drive in the final minutes ending with a rush by quarterback, J’Mar Smith, to put them up for good at 28-24, to end the contest.

The Generals missed two field goals during the game.

Next, New Jersey will take on the Michigan Panthers on Friday night. That game will air on USA. The Stallions will next play the Houston Gamblers on Saturday night in a contest that will air on FS1.
