When a pitcher is trending at the top of social media it usually means one of two things.
He’s either closing in on a no-hitter or perfect game.
Or he’s getting rocked.
New York Yankees ace, Gerrit Cole, was in the baseball neither realm on Tuesday night, getting pulled less than two innings into his start against the Detroit Tigers.
His final line? 1.2 innings pitched. 2 earned runs. 5 walks. 3 strikeouts. And 68 pitches thrown. The score was 3-2 when he left the contest.
Baseball twitter lost their mind…

In a game the Yankees could really use a win, our $324 million dollar “ace” was spotted a 3-0 lead against a bad baseball team. He walked half the batters he faced and couldn’t make it out of the second inning.
Gerrit Cole is a loser

Remember the good times when Gerrit Cole struck out like 50 batters before surrendering a walk, now we’re at 4 walks in the 2nd inning lol

What do you think the Yankees could get for Gerrit Cole right now, Robinson Cano? It'd have to be a horrible contract for a horrible contract situation. Maybe Anthony Rendon?

Gerrit Cole is the least trust worthy starter in this rotation

AJ Hinch is just a diabolical strategist. Iced Gerrit Cole for two innings on a cold, windy day by having the Tigers play godawful baseball. Playing the long game.

Normalize not mentioning Gerrit Cole and Jacob deGrom in the same sentence

You can be absolutely irate at Gerrit Cole (like me) and not overreact to 3 starts
— Ryan Garcia (In The Lab🧪) (@RyanGarciaESM) April 20, 2022
Gerrit Cole is literally the Yankees #5 starter right now. $300M+ contract and he has yet to figure it out.

Not saying this inning’s dragging, but the first batter Gerrit Cole faced was Lou Whitaker.

Umpires I can promise you that Gerrit Cole isn’t using illegal substances lol
