The “Don’t Worry Darling” trailer dropped today, and stop me if you’ve heard it.
We’ve got Florence Pugh.
Experiencing mental trauma.
Witnessing horrible events.
Being gaslighted by her lover.
No one believes her.
She appears to be right.
That’s “Don’t Worry Darling”.
It’s also Midsommer. The 2019 daylight horror which has Pugh being terrorized by a Swedish cult.
Now, I’m on an island on this. The “Don’t Worry Darling” trailer is being well received, but that’s because of the star power involved. It’s quite a gorgeous cast.
In addition to Pugh (who’s stock is sky high right now as she chases her inevitable Oscar), we’ve got Harry Styles, Gemma Chan, and Chris Pine.
And the film is directed by Olivia Wilde, who is dating Styles.
This is just an observation. The movie does indeed look good. And I’m not doubting Wilde in the director’s chair after she gave us “Book Smart”.
But should the film fall flat, these comparisons will no doubt be brought up and that’s something that should concern everyone involved in the project.
The solution? Well, a second trailer that reveals a little more. But then again that does remove the mystery revolving around the film.
It’s more likely that filmmakers will bet that we’ve got short memories and not tell us anymore than we need to know.
You can view the trailer below and decide for yourself.
